See the QuickTex composer in action, from LaTeX input to an equation preview in Slides.

Maths teachers know how quickly a small formatting task can interrupt a lesson. A fraction needs adjusting, a line of working should sit neatly beside an explanation, or a diagram would be clearer if it could be drawn directly on the slide. Switching between tools and rebuilding equations takes time away from planning and teaching.

QuickTex is an upcoming Google Workspace add-on designed to make those tasks feel more connected. It brings equation writing and practical slide tools into Google Docs and Google Slides, where teachers already prepare notes, explanations and lessons.

A focused workspace for equations

QuickTex includes a LaTeX composer with a live preview, so you can check an expression as you write it. After inserting an equation, its source remains editable, making it possible to return and revise the maths without recreating the expression from scratch.

In Google Docs, equations can sit inline with the surrounding text. In Google Slides, maths can be added as text and equations, helping teachers build explanations that mix notation with ordinary language.

Tools for the slide around the equation

Clear mathematical slides depend on more than the equation itself. QuickTex’s Line Up Selection tool helps space selected text and equations evenly in Google Slides. It can also work with equations created outside QuickTex, which is useful when tidying up an existing deck.

What makes QuickTex different?

LaTeX input, equation previews and insertion are already available in other equation tools. Some also let users reopen and update equations. QuickTex’s approach is to connect those familiar equation features with the work teachers do around them: preserving editable source, spacing selected content on a slide, and drawing directly into a presentation.

That combination is intended to reduce the small bits of switching and manual adjustment that add up during lesson preparation. The aim is not to change how teachers explain mathematics, but to help the notation and visuals keep pace with the explanation.

Designed with clear access in mind

QuickTex works within Google Docs and Slides. Access prompts should be reviewed in context and approved by the user. The product’s design keeps equation previews in the browser and uses Google services for the processing needed to work with documents and slides. The goal is to request access for a clear purpose and make that purpose understandable.

Built for the way maths is taught

Whether preparing a worked example, cleaning up a row of expressions or adding a quick sketch to a lesson, teachers should be able to stay focused on the mathematical idea. QuickTex brings these common tasks into one workflow for Google Docs and Slides, with an optional Chrome extension to enhance the experience.

For ideas that are easier to sketch than type, FreeDraw lets you draw an equation or diagram and see it on the slide as you work. You can then insert the finished drawing into the presentation. This gives teachers a way to capture a quick visual explanation without building it from separate shapes.

We’re looking forward to sharing more as QuickTex develops.
